Pirelli Calendar 2017
Paris, the day the 2017 Pirelli Calendar was presented in the capital of France, created by one of the world’s top photographer, Peter Lindbergh.
Titled “Emotional” in this 44th edition of the Pirelli Calendar creation, it features a line up of well-known female actresses who bore their souls in front of the lens of Peter Lindbergh, where he carefully captured the sensitivity of emotions and beauty that each one of them embraced, and freely expressed.
Now, if you are expecting the Pirelli Calendar to be just a line up of different tyre showcase, then what you’re looking for is the product catalogue. If you’re looking for scantily-clad ladies posing with the tyres, then try a men’s magazine.
But no, not for the Pirelli Calendar. If you don’t already know, the Pirelli Calendar is actually one of the most iconic calendars in the world, and each different edition sends a strong key message to the world.
The very first Pirelli Calendar was launched in 1964, and it has since evolved dramatically over the past 5 decades. Like the motorcycling community, we are starting to see a culture change in the industry with more women growing in courage, breaking free of that conservative image set by the mediocre society, and picking up the two wheeler sport and it is indeed something to be embraced for.
“The idea of perfect beauty (in a woman) promoted by society is something that simply can’t be attained”, said Lindbergh. He wanted to use his work, to free women from that mentality, and realize that each one of us is beautiful in our very own way.
The photographer explains the underlying theme of the 2017 Pirelli Calendar: “In a time when women are represented in the media and everywhere else, as ambassadors of perfection and youth, I thought it was important to remind everyone that there is a different beauty, more real and truthful and not manipulated by commercial or any other interests, a beauty which speaks about individuality, courage to be yourself and your own private sensibility…”
Women these days are struggling to find their own identity because they have been so confused or pressured by what the media or society portray how they should be.
And the Pirelli Calendar 2017 is here to send a clear message, to empower women, to help them appreciate who they are regardless of what they do or how they look like, and recognize that there’s beauty in every individual one of us.
In order to convey his idea of natural beauty and femininity, Lindbergh has portrayed 14 internationally renowned actresses in the Calendar.
They are Penelope Cruz, Nicole Kidman, Lea Seydoux, Rooney Mara, Helen Mirren, Julianne Moore, Kate Winslet, Robin Wright and Zhang Ziyi, just to name a few, who all shared the common interest in the movement behind the 2017 Pirelli Calendar’s key message.
At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter whether you’re a feminine or rugged lady who enjoys riding a motorcycle. It doesn’t matter whether you see it as a lifestyle, a sport, or just a mode of transport. It doesn’t matter if the society around you can’t accept that.
Be your own kind of beautiful, embrace who you are and what you believe in, because that’s what makes life worth living for.
